Black and Decker Rechargeable Lawn Mower Review - Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower

I can honestly say, after owning both the CM1000, and the Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric that I love the new one even better than the first.

The The Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower seems to be a bit lighter than the first (although it’s still a little heavy).

There are a couple of design changes, but nothing to write home about.

My biggest surprise was finding that Black & Decker had either improved the batteries or the mower. After finishing my 2nd season of mowing last October with the Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric, the mower was just as powerful as the first season of mowing.

As long as I don’t go over a 1/2 acre lot, I will ALWAYS own a battery powered mower. The joy I feel not having to mess with gas, oil and air filters is indescribable.

If you are on the fence about the The Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric, don’t be. This model is cheaper than the one I purchased almost 8 years ago, and it’s even better.

Honda, Top Gear Magazine are building a 210 km/h lawnmower
Top Gear Magazine is known for its shenanigans and hijinks, and its latest project is no exception. It, working with Team Dynamics and Honda, has embarked on a mission to build the world’s fastest lawnmower. And recently, it came to life.

“The main engineering challenge stems from the need to retain the look of the lawnmower on which it is based, and the ability to still cut grass while achieving the speed and the handling characteristics required for this type of vehicle.” (Screenshot/BBC UK)

Choosing a Cordless Lawn Mower For Your Garden

So if you are in the market for a new cordless lawn mower where should you start? Well one important question to ask is “how big is my lawn?”. The reason for this relates to battery life. While the best models will mow up to a third of an acre from a single charge, others will cover less. So you need to check that the model you are looking at will be able to cut the whole of your lawn in one go. The area it will cut will vary according to the length of grass and how wet or dry the conditions are.

If your garden is larger than a third of an acre you can still use a cordless lawn mower, but what you may want to do is purchase a second battery, that way once the charge on the one that you are using has run out you can simply swap them over. You will, of course, require a model of cordless lawn mower that has a removable battery in order to do this.

The second question you should ask yourself is whether or not your lawn is on a slope. Most cordless lawn mowers are not self-propelled, unlike most gas powered mowers. The reason for this is to prolong the life of the battery - if the mower was self-propelled it would cover a much smaller area in a single charge. However, cordless lawn mowers are much less heavy than gas powered mowers and therefore pretty easy to push. However, if you do have a slope it would be worth checking out the weight of the model you are looking at.

Another issue that is worth considering is how the mower you are looking at disposes of grass clippings. Many cordless lawn mowers have a 3-in-1 feature. What this means is that it has three options for dealing with the grass it has cut. This includes mulching (i.e. cutting the clippings into very small pieces which is then discharged over your lawn), side discharge (i.e. the clippings are simply discharged out of the side of the mower) or rear bagging (i.e. the traditional method of collecting clippings in a bag at the rear of the mower). If the mower has a 3-in-1 feature then you can experiment and find which is the best for you.
